After a extended agonizing drought (thanks to the exam period and IPL matches) of pure uninteresting to exasperating pictures arrives Sajid Khan’s Housefull. While in totality it does fall short of being the big great summer entertainer that it is been claiming to be, it however manages to bring many laughs for you. “The fact is that critics don’t have to tell me whether my film is good or not. It is the job of the audience and they would decide if ‘Housefull’ works for them,” Sajid quoted during production.
Sajid, who also wrote the movie, strains too strong to add humour to every frame. He resorts to the everyday gay and Gujarati gags. He packs just about everything to entertain you for the next two hours. Much was expected from Sajid Khan who has been literally claiming from rooftops for weeks now that he has made the year’s biggest blockbuster. That’s because the promos of the movie have previously given you an inkling of what to expect from this film.
To give Sajid due praise, he has created many rip roaringly funny situations that are further elevated to a different level by his actors. Amongst the most hilarious sequences are most of the scenes featuring Akshay and Ritesh together.
It’s not merely an assemblage of funny sequences or a mere montage, but is backed by a stroy. The story is about pretenses, and how in the name of saving one’s face and popularity, lies lead to larger lies, stemming from wanting to impress family members. Housefull narrates the story of Aarush (Akshay Kumar), the unluckiest man in the world!. Aarush is in quest of true love to turn over his bad luck for good. In this quest for true love, he gets married to the daughter (Jiah Khan) of a wealthy businessman Kishore Samtani (Randhir Kapoor). Then Sandy also falls in love with Aarush. Sandy is played by none other than Deepika Padukone. Then enter another girl Hetal played by Lara Dutta (Bobs wife) into the plot. To spice up the matter Sandy’s brother Arjun Rampal also enters the plot. How Aarush and his friend Bob (Riteish Deshmukh) come out of this jumble, forms the core of the movie.
Every actor in this picture takes the picture to the next stage. I am not attempting to write a full housefull movie review here. Akshay Kumar is the soul of Housefull. All those who felt that the actor tends to get loud or needs to be controlled will change their belief with this movie. Riteish is brilliant as natural. He doesn’t give you an impression that he is acting. Though the story primarily revolves around Akshay, Riteish stands shoulder to shoulder with Akshay in this one. Next Arjun Rampal does a fantastic job as well. Deepika carries her part with amazing confidence and again she will be remembered for her performance in this one. Lara is a seasoned player when it comes to comedies and she’s too good at it once again. Her scenes with Riteish in particular and also with Boman are first-rate. Jiah also excell in her role.
